Documented "SD" and "J. Shell" Signed Percussion American Long Rifle

This rifle appears on page 229 of "The Muzzle-Loading Cap Lock Rifle" by Roberts and is identified as made by John Shell (1790-1875) of Shellsville, Pennsylvania. Features a star pattern on the muzzle, brass blade and notch sights, "J SHELL" directly behind the rear sight, "SD" further back, unmarked lock, "tear drop" lock screw washer, double set triggers, brass furniture, and a smooth walnut stock.

ConditionGood with dark brown patina, mild oxidation/pitting, aged patina on the brass, and scattered marks and scratches. The stock is very good and has smooth finish and only some minor surface scratches and pressure marks. Mechanically fine (set trigger first).
