Offered here is a variation (third model) of Merwin, Hulbert & Co.'s large frame double action revolver manufactured exclusively by Hopkins & Allen in the 1870s and 1880s with conventional fluted cylinder, square butt with lanyard ring, round barrel and top strap. The frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873", the designation for 44-40 caliber, on the left side. The serial number is on the butt, and matching assembly numbers are found on the left side of the grip frame, rear cylinder face, barrel lug and right grip panel.
