Johannes Eich was active in Homburg around the late 17th century to second quarter of the 18th century. This pistol is styled like a traditional flintlock pistol and even has a complete flintlock mechanism as was the fashion on early air guns. The reservoir is within the detachable butt under the wood and has a scroll engraved brass cap. The two stage brass lined barrel has a brass front sight with an engraved "wild man" base, "JE A HOMBURG" on a raised flat on the octagonal breech section, engraved borders, and a notch rear sight at the breech. The brass upper tang is dated "*1*7*35*" and has scroll and border engraving. The flat bevelled lock has scroll and border engraving and "JOHANNES EICH" at the center. The furniture is engraved brass. The trigger guard design looks like a stylized "N," possibly an initial for the original owner. The side plate displays a twin towered castle, scrollwork, and animals. The stock has raised relief molding, scroll, and floral accents as does the wood on the reservoir.

Very fine with mostly bright iron surfaces with minor spotting, aged patina on the brass, crisp engraving and general minor marks. The wood is fine with some repairs, crisp carving, and light scratches and dings. The reservoir is possibly a period replacement. The lock is mechanically fine.
