Rare Engraved Dooley Breech Loading Butt Reservoir Pneumatic Air Rifle with Case and Accessories

Manufactured by William Dooley of Liverpool in circa 1850. It has small blade and notch sights, "DOOLEY 11 RANELAGH ST LIVERPOOL" signed on top of the barrel at the breech, tap action style breech loading mechanism, fine traditional scrollwork engraving on the action, and shark skin covered butt reservoir. It comes with an associated relined and refitted English brass cornered mahogany gun case with accessories, including a stirrup pump, a brass gang bullet mold, and a reproduction steel pump spanner.

ConditionFine with 85% plus rebrown finish and attractive Damascus patterns along the barrel, traces of original colors and otherwise gray and brown patina on the action, moderate wear on the shark skin including a split on the right side of the butt and some shrinkage at the seams, and general minor marks and dings. Appears to be mechanically fine, but the reservoir and pump have not been tested. The relined case is good with absent lock hardware, cracked lid, and mild storage wear. The accessories are very good with some pitting to the stirrup pump. Overall a very attractive and rare antique English air rifle.
