Description:

Antoine-Louis Barye (France, 1795-1875). This classic great French animalier of the 19th century produced a mirrored image pair of sitting lions with one paw holding a heraldic shield with three fleurs-de-lis each. Each lion was placed usually in an entranceway as to tell the visitors that their host was a powerful person. The lions rest on bronze plinths and are signed "Barye" on the base. Dimensions: 17Wx30Lx33H. Weight: 180 lbs. total or 90 lbs. each.
