Rare Documented Two Digit Serial Number Pre-Production/Experimental Colt Camp Perry Single Shot Target Pistol with Factory Letter

Found in the 1 to 63 serial number range, this is one of 63 pre-production/experimental Camp Perry single shot target pistols that Colt built and gave to Olympic target shooters and nationally known competition shooters. Colt had leading shooters test the pistol and counsel the Colt designers on the pistol's performance prior to the gun's official introduction to the commercial market in 1926. The Camp Perry is one of the few single shot pistols offered by Colt, and although considered an accurate target pistol, limited quantities were produced. The barrel is stamped with the two-line address/1905 patent date marking on top and "CAL .22 LONG RIFLE" on the left side. A Rampant Colt is stamped on the left side of the frame, and the chamber is unmarked. With equipped with elevation adjustable blade and windage adjustable square notch rear sights. Matching serial number "14" is found on the left side of the grip frame, crane, and underside of the breechblock. The accompanying factory letter lists this pistol with a 10 inch barrel in .22 LR, blue finish and checkered walnut grips when it was shipped on February 14, 1923, to Dwight G. Pheleps, then Vice President of the Colt Patent Firearms Company as part of a two gun shipment.

ConditionFine. 75% original blue finish remains with areas of a faded blue/gray patina, some small scratches, and edge wear. The grips are also fine with well defined checkering and some small dings. Mechanically excellent.
