Gauge: 8 mm
Barrel: 29 1/2 inch round
Finish: blue
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 13911
Item Interest: Active
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 218
Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun
Description:

Manufactured in 1917. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the 1917 date and arsenal markings on top of the chamber. Smooth pistol grip stock, with a matching serial number on the underside, "crown/Gothic letter" proofs and a smooth flat buttplate. The left side of the buttstock is branded "VII/12", and the right side "EWB"; while not documented, "EWB" marked weapons have been associated with the Einwohnerwehr ("Citizens' Defense") of Bavaria. Primarily formed from 'freikorps' militias in the aftermath of WWI, the collapse of the monarchy and the resulting domestic chaos, the Einwohnerwehr was pro-monarchy, anti-Semitic, and violently anti-communist, and operated both independently and with the tacit approval of the Bavarian government. Among its more prominent members was Ernst Rohm, future chief of the Nazi Stormtroopers. While formally disbanded in 1921, most members joined other organizations, post prominently Bund Bayern und Reich (Bavaria and Empire League) which would eventually be absorbed by Stahlhelm and then merged with the Nazi Party.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal reworked (some later production "S/42" components, added by armory), with 40% of the arsenal blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, mild spotting and handling marks. The stock is good, with some dents and scuffs. The bolt is a bit sluggish due to accumulated storage grease, but otherwise mechanically good.

Manufacturer: Danzig

Type: Rifle
Gauge: 8 mm
Barrel: 29 1/2 inch round

Catalog Page: 218
Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun
Description:

Manufactured in 1900. Blade front and "ski ramp" tangent rear sights, with an "S" marked chamber, "DANZIG/1900" on the receiver ring, and matching serial numbers on many components, including the trigger guard screws. Fitted with a smooth pistol grip stock, marked "154.R.6.242." on a steel disc on the right side, with a flat buttplate. Consignor notes attribute this rifle as having been shipped to Thailand at some point.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with traces of the original blue finish, showing a mixed brown and gray patina overall, bright edge wear, and scattered spotting and handling marks. The stock is good as cleaned/repaired, with a small patch of replaced wood on the underside behind the rear sling swivel base, a number of dents and scuffs, and rounding of the wood at the toe. Mechanically very good.
