This is an excellent original example of an WWII Japanese Type 97 sniper rifle complete with the rare matching number 2.5X sniper scope and muzzle cover. This rifle was produced at the Chigusa factory under Nagoya Arsenal, and the top of the receiver is marked with the imperial chrysanthemum over the Japanese Kana markings for "Type 97", both intact. The rear sight has the long staff without the anti-aircraft wings, and the rear barrel band has the monopod block with hole but no monopod. The buttstock is the two-piece type without drain holes that is fitted with the standard flat cupped steel buttplate and a short top hand guard. It is fitted with a very late production 2.5X power sniper scope. The top rear section of the scope is marked: "2.5 X 10 (degrees)/NTC/KOGAKU/No.26848". The side of the base of the scope has the matching serial number "1859". It is complete with the cleaning rod plastic push on muzzle cover.

Excellent with 90% plus of the blue finish still remaining overall, edge and high spot wear, and light thinning on the trigger guard bow, top of the action and bolt body from handling and cycling. The stock and handguard are both in excellent condition with a nice matching color overall showing minor scattered light handling marks on the sides and underside.
