Description:

Originally produced in May of 1944 and subsequently arsenal upgraded to the M1D Sniper configuration, a procedure more typically performed on Springfield-made M1 receivers. Rifles so converted were used as sniper weapons during Korea and the Vietnam War. Blade front and peep rear sights, "DRC" windage drum, Springfield bolt, hammer, relief cut operating rod and "S-A-3-52" dated barrel, and a "W.R.A." trigger housing. The stock has a circled "P" on the wrist and a faint cartouche (possibly starting with "H"), and unmarked leather cheekpiece (no screws), tan canvas sling and a checkered steel buttplate. The scope is serial numbered "22203" on the M84 data plate, with a metal sun shield and a rubber eyepiece. Also included with the rifle is a "H" marked M2 conical flash hider, 1954 M84 scope manual (TM9-6131) and a 1980s reprint of the 1969 M1/M1C/M1D manual (TM 9-1005-222-12).

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished, with 95% plus of the parkerized finish, showing bright wear on the high points and bearing surfaces, along with some mild handling marks. The sanded, reoiled stock is very good, with contrasting lighter color beneath the leather, and a number of dents and scuffs. The sling and cheekpiece are good, the former with staining, the latter with scuffs and verdigris. The optics are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
