Manufactured 1910. A total of 523 No. 5 guns were built from 1894-1912. As explained by the L.C. Smith Collectors Association, "Engraving on this grade was elaborate. Many variations are found, because engraving was done to meet the customers specifications." Single bead sight on a matte concave rib marked "MADE TO ORDER BY HUNTER ARMS CO FULTON N.Y" followed by a gold inlaid band, engraved wedges of scrollwork at the breech, engraved extension, engraved band at the muzzles, ejectors, and improved modified/improved cylinder chokes. The barrel flats are jeweled and marked with the serial number over "5" and "3 in. CHAMBER" marking. The action features a Hunter One Single selective trigger and manual tang safety. The action features a beautiful Grade 5 engraved pattern: scrollwork, floral blossoms and hunting dog scenes inside oval panels. The fully figured splinter forearm and round knob pistol grip stock have multi-point checkering. A Pachmayr Old English pad is fitted to the buttstock. The forearm had engraved hardware and ebony tip. Barrel and stock measurements: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .635/.619 inch; bore constriction .012(modified)/.021(improved modified); minimum wall thickness .030/.030 inch drop at comb 1 5/8 inches, drop at heel 2 inches, length of pull 13 7/8 inches.

Very fine overall. The barrels retain nearly all of the professional quality blue finish. 40% original case colors remain on the action. 90% of the original blue remains on the trigger guard. The revarnished wood has a tiny missing surface chip near the left lock, minimal handling evidence and crisp recut checkering overall. The chambers have been lengthened to nearly 3 1/2 inches. Mechanically excellent. A rare L.C. Smith that will be a perfect addition to your sporting collection.
