Description:

Manufactured in 1866 as one of the first Winchester Model 1866 saddle ring carbines with a distinctive flat side receiver and flat loading gate.. The top of the barrel has the desirable two-line Henry's and King's patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight. The left side of the lower tang is marked with the serial number. The receiver has a correct upper tang with two screws and a saddle ring mounted on the left side. Fitted with a front sight integral to the front barrel band, two leaf rear sight and brass buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included). The buttstock features an elaborate period executed, relief carved Indian head on the comb, carved initials in Old English on the left side and additional relief carving on the underside. The forearm has a light carving in front of the barrel band.

Rating Definition:

Good, with an overall bright appearance mixed with some dark minor pitting. There is a stress crack around an upper tang screw. The refinished wood is also good with a repaired wrist, stabilized crack on the forearm and minor dings and scratches throughout. The carving is crisp. Mechanically excellent. A work of firearm folk art for any Winchester collection.
