Receiver manufactured in 1947. This beautiful shotgun features the classic 42-5 engraving pattern on the sides of the receiver with a single setter and two quail on the right side in a grassy, lightly wooded scene and two pointers on the left side with two grouse in flight on a similarly grassy wooded background. The engravings are highly detailed, and the signature of Master Engraver Nick Kusmit is located on the underside of the receiver. Kusmit was a long time Winchester factory Master Engraver as well as independent contractor and his work is very sought after by collectors. The Simmons Gun Specialties marked non-factory added vent rib barrel features a single bead sight, 3 inch chamber, modified choke and 2 inch wedges of floral scroll engraving at the breech. Jeweled bolt and lifter. The highly figured walnut forearm and pistol grip stock featuring diamond pattern checkering, metal grip cap and solid recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 1/8 inches. Comes with a Winchester red, white and blue box featuring a Robert Petersen collection label on the bottom. Very few guns from Petersen's collection have made it to private hands as the vast majority of his collection was donated to the NRA's National Firearms Museum. Includes a factory build sheet dated 8/23/78.

Extremely fine overall as upgraded and embellished by Master Engraver Nick Kusmit. 98% of the blue finish remains showing minimal cycling wear, minimal handling marks and crisp stock checkering.
