Description:

Offered here is a factory engraved Spencer shotgun made more desirable by being serial number 1. Designed by Christopher M. Spencer the designer of the Civil War military carbine and manufactured from 1882 to 1889, these Spencer shotguns are considered the first successful American slide action repeating shotgun. The receiver and trigger guard feature floral scrollwork on a punch dot background. In addition to the scrollwork the receiver has a hunting panel scene on the left side and "SPENCER ARMS CO." inside a banner on the right side. The Damascus barrel, which is numbered to the gun, has a bead front sight and the one-line Spencer Arms Co. address. The magazine tube is twist steel. The short hand slide handle and round knob pistol grip stock are checkered, and the buttstock is fitted with a checkered hard rubber buttplate. Length of pull is 13 7/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains half of the faded original brown Damascus and the breech face is dented. The magazine retains 40% of the original twist pattern and has a series of dings/tool marks ahead of the slide handle. The receiver retains faded patterns of original case colors. The heavily worn wood is good with worn smooth checkering and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
