Excellent Civil War U.S. Inspected Rogers & Spencer Army Model Percussion Revolver

5,000 of the estimated 5,800 manufactured were produced under contract for the U.S. Government in early 1865, but they were delivered too late to see use in the Civil War. Most were sold via Bannerman's in the early 20th century. This example has standard single letter inspection marks throughout and the "RPB" cartouche of inspector Captain R. P. Barry on the left grip. The barrel has a German silver cone front sight, and the top strap has the standard markings and the groove rear sight.

ConditionExcellent with 90% plus original bright blue finish and subdued case colors and smooth brown patina where the finish has flaked at the rear of the cylinder. The grips are also excellent with a crisp cartouche, even oil finish, some mild edge wear including some chips, and a few light handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent. Overall, a very fine and attractive U.S. contract revolver. The Rogers & Spencer is easily one of the finest manufactured handguns of the Civil War era.
