Scarce Civil War Era Pidault-Cordier Patent "Raphael" Double Action Centerfire Revolver

Manufactured c. 1860s. A small number of these revolvers were purchased for the Union Army from George Raphael & Company for $26.33 each which was approximately twice the price of a Remington percussion. Raphael was a friend of President Lincoln. Some are believed to have also been purchased privately by officers. It has bead and notch sights, no visible markings aside from "442" on the left at the breech, a rotating recoil shield with built in loading gate and safety slot, smooth grips, and a lanyard ring and ejection tool threaded into the butt.

ConditionFine with 40% original blue finish, gray and brown patina on the balance, some light spotting/pitting, and moderate overall wear. The grips are also fine and have numerous scrapes, pressure marks, and dents consistent with use. The firing pin has been repaired and doesn't properly engage the safety slot, but otherwise functions intermittently.
