The Harpers Ferry Armory manufactured 25,296 Model 1841 rifles between 1846 and 1855. This example is a mid-1850s arsenal alteration and has seven-groove .58 rifling for use with patched round balls, blade front sight, bayonet stud for mounting a saber bayonet, and the experimental long range rear sight graduated from 2 to 4 on the base and 5 to 10 on the ladder. Standard markings and "B 74" marked buttplate tang. Lock plate dated 1854 and barrel tang dated 1855.
