Description:

William Tranter's revolvers were first introduced in the 1850s. It can be fired in traditional double action with a heavy trigger pull. Pulling the lower trigger provides better leverage and only cocks the action. Pull the main trigger once cocked allows a light trigger pull. This example has the Third Model rammer with the removable ramming point and was manufactured around the late 1850s in Birmingham. For a detailed history of these revolvers and their maker see "The Firearms of William Tranter: Birmingham Gunsmith" by Ron Stewart. It has a dovetail mounted post front sight, fixed notch rear sight, "W. TRANTER'S/PATENT" oval marking on the loading lever and left side of the frame as well as the cocking trigger, "WR" or "WK" on the left side of the frame just below the rammer groove, "Y" shaped safety, "No 20033T" on the right side of the frame, "14" on the back of the cylinder and side of the trigger and loading lever, fine traditional scroll engraving, and a checkered grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with 25% original blue finish, gray and brown patina on the balance, light oxidation and pitting, and mild overall wear. The grip is also very good and has mild handling and storage wear including some wear on the mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
