Damascus steel barrels with a single bead sight on the solid matte rib marked "J. NOWOTNY IN PRAG" in fine gold inlay with 2 1/2 inch chambers with a single extractor, cylinder/cylinder chokes, and a single "crown/V" proof on the under rib ahead of the block. The receiver is engraved with fine detailed scroll surrounding gold inlay bordered game scenes of pheasants on the right and grouse on the left. The fences and hammer are artfully sculpted and contoured with a small hare scene engraved between the hammers. The locks are also scroll engraved with gold bordered game scenes of a hunting dog and a roe deer on the right, and a fox stalking partridge on the left. Scroll carved walnut forearm and straight grip stock with fancy scroll carved horn grip extension, raised cheekpiece, and lightly engraved iron shotgun buttplate. The gun includes a brass tag from the J.M. Davis Memorial Foundation. John Monroe Davis of Claremore, Oklahoma was a prolific collector of firearms and related materials and at one time possessed the largest known private firearms collection in the world and over 2,500 pieces. In 1965 Davis leased his collection to the state of Oklahoma for a term of 99 years for the sum of one dollar. In 1968 the J.M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum was opened. The museum now houses over 12,000 firearms.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrels have an overall gray patina with very strong Damascus pattern, some areas of light spotting and scattered pitting, and an area on the bottom rib that has been touched up where the sling swivel once was. The locks and receiver have an overall gray patina with well defined, detailed engraving, light spotting, and crisp checkering on the lever and hammers. The wood is also fine with numerous dings and dents, well defined foliate carving, attractive figure, a hole where the sling swivel once was on the butt stock and some dark patina on the buttplate. Mechanically excellent.
