Description:

This early production Winchester Model 21 includes an article from John C. Hopkins entitled "To Anglicize a Model 21" regarding the processes craftsmen used to create this custom Model 21 in the style of an English double. The article attributes the fine custom work to Master Gunsmith Freddy Brunner of California. Brunner's career began in Germany at Simpson before emigrating to Canada and working for Sauer, and eventually settling in California where he spent 16 years with the Pachmayr firm before going independent in 1981. Single bead sight on the matte, concave rib with standard barrel markings, chambers measure 2 3/4 inch with a single extractor, Winchester "WP" proofs on the flats, and choke tube system (improved cylinder/improved modified installed). The gun has dual triggers, a manual sliding safety on the upper tang, and extended lower tang. Features a checkered splinter forearm and a checkered straight grip stock with a solid Winchester recoil pad. With five extra choke tubes and set of snap caps. Bore and stock measurements (R/L): chambers measured at 2 3/4 inches; bores 9 inches from the breech measuring at .730/.731; minimum wall thickness .032/.033; drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; length of pull 14 inches; weight 7 lbs. 3 oz.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally assembled and finished by Master Gunsmith Freddy Brunner. 98% of the deep rust blue finish remains on the barrels with some light handling marks. The receiver has 99% of the polished hot blue finish. The wood is also very fine with crisp checkering and some very small dings. Mechanically excellent.
