Description:

Developed just prior to World War II, the Reising line of pistol-caliber weapons was envisioned as a replacement or substitute for the then-standard Thompson line of SMGs. While the Army didn't bite, having a good number of Thompsons and a substitute in the M3, the Marine Corps was hungry enough to put out a contract order. Two models (the full length 50 and the compact 55 for airborne) were delivered to the USMC, and a third, the semi-automatic Model 60, was marketed for plant defense and police use. This particular Model 60 is finished in a military-style parkerization, and in addition to the standard markings bears a "PH" stamp on the barrel, and "US" on the right side of the buttstock. An included article from Bruce Canfield ("The Short End of the Stick", American Rifleman, April 2007) includes two interesting notes. First: it notes that military contract Reisings are typically seen with a parkerized finish, underside-mounted sling swivels and a "P" on the barrel near the receiver, all features this example bears. Second: he notes that there is anecdotal evidence of M60 carbines winding up in the hands of Marine Raiders, suggesting at least limited procurement of Model 60s by the USMC along with the 50s and 55s. Other sources attribute the 60s as used for USMC training and guard duty, in addition to being sent abroad via Lend-Lease or issued to State Guard units for homefront defense. Drift adjustable blade front and elevation adjustable peep rear sights with the aforementioned features, a green canvas M1 Carbine-style sling and an extra 12-round magazine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 98% of the parkerized finish, showing some light handling marks and spotting overall. The stock is also excellent, with some mild dings and dents. Mechanically excellent.
