World War II Springfield Armory M1 Garand Rifle with British Lend Lease Proof Marks

This is a good example of an early 1942-production M1 Garand rifle as manufactured by Springfield Armory that was shipped to England under the British Lend Lease program. It has the standard markings on the heel of the receiver over serial number "533305" with the right side marked with heat lot markings of: "C 114B/D 28291-17". The barrel is correctly marked "SA-3-42" with the British Birmingham proofs on the side which have been over stamped over the Springfield Armory drawing numbers and proofs. The breech face is still in the white. The gas cylinder is the early WWII narrow version with the front sight screw cap still in place with the single slot locking screw. The operating rod is the correct unmodified WWII version marked "D35382-3-SA" and the bolt is marked "D28287-12SA/ RE5B". It has the correct windage and elevation knobs on the rear sight with the locking bar still on the windage knob. It has the early oval face middle barrel band with the early milled, rear handguard clip with the single groove. The major parts are marked as follows: trigger housing, "D28290-5-SA", Hammer: "C46008-2 SA", Safety: "C46016-6SA", Trigger guard: milled unmarked. The various internal parts are all correctly manufactured by Springfield Armory. It is fitted with a walnut stock and handguard set without any cartouches or proof marks.

ConditionFine with 90% of the professionally restored parkerized finish overall showing general light wear and handling overall with some light wear on the receiver side rail. Light pitting is visible under the finish on the left forward side of the receiver. The stock and handguards are all in good condition having been heavily sanded overall to include on the edges of some of the stock hardware, which removed all the proofs and cartouches and then revarnished/reoiled. They now have a smooth light honey color overall.
