Description:

Consisting of a tunic, short-sleeved shirt, breeches and necktie, this uniform set is configured for an oberleutnant (First Lieutenant) with the Hermann Goering Division. The tunic is of blue/gray twill construction, four pocket style, with a set of white trimmed shoulder boards and collar tabs appropriate for the rank, an aluminum Luftwaffe eagle on the right breast, and the gray-on-blue "HERMAN GORING" cuff title on the right sleeve. The left breast pocket features the Iron Cross 1st Class (no second class ribbon is run through the button hole, but it's award can be inferred), with the Flak Badge and the Ground Assault Badge below. A faded maker's mark is present inside the left breast, along with the traditional concealed suspender system. The shirt is blue/gray in color, with an embroidered Luftwaffe eagle patch on the right breast, a pair of matching fabric enlisted Artillery/Flak shoulder boards, and the markings "39" and "Sievers & Stadtlander/Herford" inside the collar; while the boards are not a perfect match for the tunic, it could serve as a plausible wartime substitution by an officer more concerned with the discomfort of having an extra set of rank pips digging into his shoulders than a strict adherence to uniform regulations. The necktie is plain black polyester with a " ROHA TRE VIRA" maker's tag, and the breeches are a blue/gray wool with tan reinforcement, wood "Solide" buttons, and no visible size markings. Included notes attributing the shirt, breeches and tunic to the George Petersen Collection, with the shirt noted as a 1970s European acquisition and the tunic and breeches as acquired in trade from the museum of the 101st Airborne Division in the 1960s.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall, showing some light staining and wear overall. Some material is absent from the right tunic shoulder board, exposing the underlying metal, and the Iron Cross shows some wear and a mixed patina. Some mixed, possibly replaced, buttons are present on the shirt, but are not visible with the tunic closed.
