An estimated 122,000 Remington New Model Army revolvers were manufactured from 1863 to 1875. Most of the Civil War era revolvers were manufactured under contract with the U.S. Ordnance Department and show considerable wear. They were the second most widely issued revolvers by the Union and remained in use even after the war. This U.S. contract revolver is in exceptional condition overall and has U.S. inspector Giles Porter's cartouche on the left grip, small inspection marks throughout, and standard markings and features, including matching serial numbers on the barrel, back of the cylinder (partial), trigger guard (partial), grip frame, and grips.
