Description:

Introduced about 1930, the SS "Black" uniform marked the distinct visual break between Himmler's SS and Rohm's SA, abandoning the then-standard "brownshirt" look for the Nazi Party muscle in favor of one of the most distinctive military or political uniforms of the 20th century. This shirt is pictured in "Uniforms of the Waffen-SS" by Michael Beaver on page 643. A brown shirt, like the one in this lot, would be worn with the tunic and breeches, but little of it would be seen, only providing a slight nod to their parent organization. The shirt itself is ink stamped "38" inside the fixed low collar, with a RZM/SS tag marked "263/36" below, and a set of black mother of pearl buttons at the breast and cuffs. No breast pockets (as would be seen on the SA uniform) are present. A detachable collar is included, with removable stiffeners and the marking "4392 P-L 2328 44" on the interior.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with some light stains and handling marks overall. No collar buttons are included.
