Description:

Italian made and constructed from what would have originally been tan or khaki colored cloth, the exterior of this cap is now off-white nearly on the entire area, and most of the darker areas are from dirt or sweat staining. This was a fairly regular occurrence for uniform items issued to officers and men of the "Afrika Korps"; old hands were known to make a point to keep their old, bleached gear, as it gave them some distinction from the new guys with their still-khaki khaki gear. Silver wire trim runs around the crown and on the front quarter of the faux earflaps, with a set of machine embroidered eagle and cockade patches, a pair of vent holes on each side with tan painted grommets, and a cloth sweatband. The interior is lined in salmon pink cloth typical of what the Italians used and is marked "60", "MUNICIPIO/DI/NAPOLI" and "1942" in the crown. Naples was the last major base between Italy and Africa. Local Italian enterprises supplied DAK. There was an enormous demand for the bleached "look," and this is typical of a piece that was manufactured already from the right material.

Rating Definition:

Fine as well aged, with a number of areas of soiling and sweat staining. Some bleed-through of the salmon color can be seen, particularly along the top crown seam, and the left wing of the eagle patch has lost some stitching.
