This is a nice example of a mid-WWII Japanese Type 99 sniper rifle that was manufactured by Kokura arsenal. The rifle is a standard Type 99 with the adjustable tangent rear peep sight without anti-aircraft wings,. The rear sight is graduated from 3-15 (300-1500 meters) and has the inverted "V" front sight with the guards, it has the standard all cast/milled metal components to include a matching number bolt which has had the handle repaired/rewelded, cocking knob and firing pin. The top of the receiver is stamped with the Japanese Chrysanthemum over the Kana markings. The rear receiver ring has the Kokura arsenal proof over the serial number (1172). It is fitted with a standard 4X sniper scope, an original mid production sniper scope with the standard grid pattern reticle, that is calibrated 6-14 (600-1400 meters) elevation below the center line with 20 degrees wind deflection on either side of the center line. The lower side of the scope mount has various Kana markings with the front objective portion of the tube marked: "4 X 7/Five Pointed Star/No. 6511". The locking plate on the back was originally numbered with "3994" and has been renumbered with "1172" which is matching to the rifle. It has a later style stock with no drain hole, cupped buttplate and side mounted sling swivels, with the two piece handguard. This rifle comes with an original, leather sling, cleaning rod and reproduction leather lens caps.

Fine with 60% of the blue finish overall showing light wear and thinning on the exposed metal parts. The stock and handguard are all in very good condition showing numerous heavy pressure dents, dings and light scratches from use in the field and handling over the years. The scope retains 85% of its black painted finish with clear optics.
