Very Scarce Early Production Japanese Tokyo Arsenal Baby Nambu Pistol Serial Number 435 with Matching Magazine

This is a very fine example of an early production Japanese "Baby Nambu" pistol that is complete with its original matching magazine. This pistol was manufactured at the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal in Koishikawa, Tokyo between 1903 and 1928. There were approximately 6,000 produced, with this pistol being produced very early as it is numbered "435". These pistols were designated as a Type "B" to differentiate it from the larger Grandpa and Papa Nambu series, and although never officially adopted by the military, they were authorized strictly for private purchase by high ranking officers in either the Army or Navy. The chamber bears the four intertwined cannon balls of the Tokyo Arsenal, and the right side of the receiver is marked with Japanese characters that identify the model above the serial number "435". The grips are finely checkered hardwood or mahogany. This desirable pistol has matching serial numbers on the bolt body, cocking knob, both grips and striker spring guide. It also comes with its original matching spare magazine that has the nickel plated body and aluminum base correctly marked "435." It has a high quality rust blue finish and straw colored trigger, magazine release, sear pivot pin and bolt lock with the bolt being finished bright.

ConditionVery fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall showing light wear on the edges and high spots overall with some light thinning/oxidation on the lower rear grip strap. The grips are both in excellent condition with some very light handling marks along the very lower edges of the grips. The small parts retain 50% original straw colors with more color on the extractor. There is one small spot of light pitting on the very front edge of the recoil spring housing, and the magazine body does show numerous scattered light erosion spots. A very nice looking, early production, three digit serial number Japanese Baby Nambu pistol.
