Fine U.S. Sharps New Model 1863 Metallic Cartridge Conversion Carbine

This is one of 60,000 New Model 1863 carbines manufactured for use during the Civil War and one of 27,000 Sharps carbines relined to .50 caliber and chambered for the .50-70 cartridge after the war for impending use in the Indian Wars. It has the standard markings and features, including "EF" and "DFC" cartouches and three-groove rifling.

ConditionFine as arsenal refinished, retains 75% plus blue finish and 50% case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina. The reoiled wood is very good with minor dings and scratches throughout, some light chipping near the buttplate and lock plate, and crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
