This is one of only approximately 30 Model 1873s embellished and plated in full gold specifically for Abercrombie & Fitch Co. that appeared in 1969/70. This very limited edition rifle was built using an original Winchester 1873 and decorated in a style normally found only on the Model 1866. It was easier to sculpt scenes in brass than in steel; because of this very few were done on the Model 1873. The majority of the calibers were .44-40 and .38-40 with some, like this example, chambered in .32-20 caliber. As identified in the factory letter, this rifle was originally received in the warehouse on September 10, 1894, and shipped on November 1 with an octagon barrel in .32 caliber and plain trigger. The modern A&F embellishment consists of beautiful floral scrollwork on a punch dot background and five stunning relief engraved game and coin circular vignettes on the receiver which include "seated Liberty," grizzly bear, and side profile bust of a Native American. A blank inscription oval appears on the right side plate amongst the scrollwork. Purportedly, the rifle was engraved by Del Zornada.

Very fine as extensively professionally embellished for Abercrombie & Fitch Co. The rifle retains 50% of the gold plating with exposed nickel under plating on the balance. The wood is also fine with a hairline stress crack at the buttplate tang and some minor dings and scratches. The magazine spring and follower are absent. The action is excellent.
