Description:

Manufactured in 1905 with standard markings and features along with standard British proofs, this rifle comes from the private collection of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. The included factory letter lists receipt at the warehouse on 6 December 1905 and shipment from the warehouse on 16 January 1906 in order number 33939. King Alfonso was known as an avid sportsman, marksman, and gun collector, with the royal family collection containing some of the finest quality and most technologically advanced firearms in Europe. With semi-automatic firearms still in their infancy in the early 20th century, this rifle would have been cutting edge technology in Alfonso's collection. The rifle remained in the private collection as evidenced by the "B.P." (Bien Privado or "Private Goods") marked tag on the buttstock until it was sold at auction in 2014 by a close member of the royal family, rumored to be Princess Cristina, the great grand-daughter of King Alfonso XIII and the sister of the present king of Spain, Felipe VI. Magazine absent.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 90% original blue finish and strong nitre blue on the bolt with some minor scratches and dings, and a few scattered light patches of brown patina. The wood is very good with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A wonderful chance to add a royal connection to a Winchester collection!
