Description:

Manufactured in 1918 with standard markings and features along with British import/proof marks and an added solid rubber recoil pad. This rifle was once part of the personal collection of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. Alfonso's turbulent reign was from 1886-1931, culminating in his eventual abdication from exile in Rome in 1941. Included notes from Pete Holder claim this rifle was one of many firearms retained with the king when he fled Spain in 1931, and explains its passing from a private collection rather than to the state museums in Spain. By all accounts Alfonso was an avid and accomplished sportsmen, being considered among the greatest in Europe, as well as having a particular interest in high quality and technologically advanced firearms. This rifle would have certainly peaked the latter interest with semi-automatic firearms still being in their infancy in the early 20th century. There are three collection tags on the buttstock that have been there since the rifle was sold at a 2014 auction by a direct descendent of the King. Magazine absent.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 85% original blue finish with some light handling marks and mild edge wear. The wood is also very good with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A very good example of a Winchester firearm that was used by a European monarch.
