Description:

Around 30,000 of these revolvers were manufactured in approximately 1864-1870. They utilize front loaded "teat-fire" cartridges designed by Daniel Moore as a work around of the Rollin White patent. Fifty of these rare cartridges are included in the case which is inscribed "Presented to/S.L.M." on the lid escutcheon. The revolver has a full silver plated finish, attractive scroll engraving, the standard round blade and hammer groove sights, "MOORE'S PATENT FIRE ARMS Co. BROOKLYN, N.Y." on top of the barrel, "D. WILLIAMSON'S PATENT JANUARY 5. 1864" on the rear edge of the cylinder, "PAT/APR 26/1863" on the right side of the barrel lug under the loading gate, "U" on the right side of the grip frame, and matching serial numbers marked on the bottom of the barrel (1099), left side of the grip frame (K99), and back of the grips (99).

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus original silver plating exhibiting dark aged patina, dark original case colors on the hammer and trigger, patches of mild oxidation, crisp markings and engraving, minor dings and scratches, and only slight handling and storage wear on the grips. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with mild storage wear primarily on the lining which has some staining/fading and contact wear. The cartridges are oxidized, and a few have splits in the cases. Overall, this is a high condition example of a Moore's Patent revolver from the era of the Civil War and Reconstruction complete with a presentation inscribed case and rare ammunition.
