Description:

These revolvers were manufactured in 1861-1863. The reported 3,376 revolvers turned over to and sold by Smith & Wesson after Moore lost a lawsuit over the Rollin White patent generally had Smith & Wesson markings added. This attractive example has "MANFD FOR SMITH & WESSON BY MOORE'S PAT. FIRE ARMS Co." on top of the barrel, standard post and hammer notch sights, primarily scrollwork engraving, the Rollin White 1855 patent and the Moore 1860 patent marking on the cylinder, no serial number in the usual location on the bottom of the barrel lug, and matching assembly markings "76" and "O" on the frame, rear of the cylinder, hammer, grip straps, and grip. A series of notches are cut into the back edge of the grip, four on the left and two on the right.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% original bright high polish blue finish, 75% original silver plating, aged patina on the silver and gunmetal, some light spotting, minor scratches, and crisp markings and engraving. The grip is very good with strong varnished finish, mild lower edge wear, and light scrapes. Mechanically excellent.
