Description:

Hugh H. Wilson and John R. Evans had shops in both Sacramento and San Francisco, California, c. 1854-1878. Wilson originally worked for Colt. They are known to have also manufactured their own versions of Henry Deringer's famous pocket pistols. The heavy octagon barrel is turned down at the muzzle for use with a starter and has a dovetailed blade and notch sights, "WILSON & EVANS SAN FRANCISCO" on top, and a banded patent breech. The lock is unmarked, and it and the other furniture aside from the pewter forend cap are silver plated. It has double set triggers. A spare nipple is in the cap box. The stock has a checkered wrist and a rounded cheekpiece.

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished with a blend of gray and brown patina along the barrel, vice marks at the breech section, mild dings and scratches, dark aged patina on the lock and cap box, lighter aged patina on the other furniture, refreshed oiled finish on the wood, crisp checkering, thin cracks at the left flat and left side of the forend, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
