Description:

Grantham is a town in Lincolnshire, England, and John Wilkins was a gunsmith there from at least 1806 to 1830. The wedge fastened barrel has a bayonet lug/front sight, "GRANTHAM" on top of the breech section, ordnance proofs on the left, and a ringed breech. The lock has the Georgian cipher at the center, a lined border, and "WILKINS" ahead of the stepped tail. A "crown/R" engraved escutcheon is on the top of the wrist, and the trigger guard has an acorn finial. Sling swivels are fitted to forend between the upper ramrod ferrules and the front of the trigger guard. Much of the furniture is similar to a full sized musket as is the stock which has an "R" on the left flat. "11" is marked on the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with fairly bright surfaces along with some light oxidation/pitting, aged patina on the brass, a filled knot hole on the comb (original), a couple minor flakes, and a few light and general minor marks and scratches on the metal and fine wood. Mechanically excellent.
