Description:

These guns are also called amusettes or wall guns. These massive guns essentially filled a gap between rifles/muskets and artillery. Some were rifled and thus were more effective at longer range. In fact, General Charles Lee wrote to George Washington during the Revolution concerning these guns stating, "I am likewise furnishing myself with four-ounced rifle-amusettes, which will carry an infernal distance; the two-ounced hit a half sheet of paper 500 yards distance." These guns are rarely found on the collectors market today. William Moore of London, born in 1781, was active in the early to mid-19th century and was a gunmaker-in-ordinary to King William IV starring in 1836. The lock is marked "-W.MOORE-," and the barrel has "WM MOORE" and London proofs. The barrel has 11-groove rifling with a slow twist rate, rounded grooves and narrow lands; a low profile brass blade front sight, and a notch rear sight with 100 yard base and screw affixed 300 yard leaf. The muzzle across the land gauges at 1.16 inches and 1.19 inches across the grooves making the gun approximately 3 bore. The massive breech has scroll and martial motifs. The other components are mostly unadorned brass. The washers on the swivel hole are casehardened.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with dark brown patina along the barrel and lock, subtle original case colors on the washers, aged patina on the brass, minor marks and scratches on the wood and metal, minor cracks and small chips in the stock, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
