J.R. McChesney No. 6 "Prairie Tulip" Pattern Double Mounted "Gal-Leg" Spurs with Leather Straps

Manufactured circa 1920s by J.R. McChesney, who is known as the "Grandaddy of the Texas style spur". McChesney is also often cited as the creator of both the "gal-leg" and "goose neck" shanks. The upturned heel bands are double mounted with lightly engraved silver and copper. The gal-leg shanks are double mounted with silver and copper ending in 5-point star rowels. They are fitted with period stamped border pattern leather straps made by Harpham Brothers. Provenance: Purchased from Lee Jacobs in 2003 at the Mesa High Noon show, Pat Gilligan Collection, Bruce Bartlett. Heel band width: 1/2-3/4" Shanks: 2 3/8" Rowel diameter: 1 5/8" Heel opening: 3".

ConditionFine, showing mostly a smooth brown patina, bright silver, and age darkened copper with some scattered light oxidation and mild wear. The leather is also very good with mild wear.
