L.C. Smith Baker Patent Hammer Drilling

Manufactured from 1878-1888 with about 1,186 units produced. Damascus steel barrels signed "L.C. SMITH MAKER OF BAKER GUN SYRACUSE N.Y.DAMASCUS STEEL." on the solid rib, blade front sight, "2" marked on underside, 10 gauge shotgun barrels and .44 WCF rifle barrel. Casehardened action signed "BAKER PAT.," light scroll engraving, folding ladder sight mounted on upper tang, rifle barrel cocking lever inside the trigger guard and front trigger used as the break lever. Nicely figured round knob pistol grip stock with multi-point checkering, forend with wedge numbered to gun, and smooth steel shotgun buttplate.

ConditionGood. The barrels retain 30% original Damascus pattern with a mottled gray patina on the balance. Traces of silvered out original case colors remain on the action. There is some pitting and part of the lower tang has been replaced. The wood is also good with missing chips and short hairline stress crack near upper tang, stabilized cracks on the forearm, some minor-moderate dings and scratches and some worn checkering. The wedge escutcheon is missing a screw. Mechanically excellent.
