This is beautiful example of the highly desirable Frank Wesson No 1 Long Range Creedmoor or single shot target type action as manufactured by Steve Earl's. This example is a very early production model, serial number "32" that is still in the white ready to be final finished and assembled into an excellent long range Creedmoor type target rifle. Steve Earle needs no introduction as he is well know throughout the single shot target/schuetzen shooting industry and is know as one of the finest precision machinist in the New England area. He is meticulous in all of his work and this action certainly demonstrates his ability. These very desirable actions have only been available only on a special order basis with very few ever offered for sale. The original No 1 actions were manufactured circa 1865-70 and are theorized that they were based on the rifles produced by Alex Henry of Scotland. This action as noted is a current replica only manufactured from modern steels, with the entire action still in the white. These actions featured a detachable side plate lock with a light weight hammer for a reduced lock time. They have an under lever locking system with a very heavy, square breech block that is perpendicular to the barrel that is hand fitted into the locking lugs of the receiver, similar to the later Winchester 1885 high wall design. This example as noted comes with a new .40 Cal barrel blank manufactured by the Borchardt Rifle company, (a.k.a. Al Story). Al Story also need no introduction to the Schuetzen/target shooter as he has been a Master machinist and gunsmith with over 45 years experience in manufacturing Borchardt actions and premium grade barrels. The barrel that accompanies this action was hand selected by Al Story for this consignor for this Wesson/Earle Action project. The barrel is still in the white as a rough turned blank, that measures 28 1/2 inches with a 1-16 inch twist, with a .400 groove diameter and a .408 bore diameter.

Rating Definition:

Near new with both the action still in the white ready for final finishing and the barrel in same condition in the original shipping box. Ready to be final turned and fitted to the caliber of your choice. When complete this will be an excellent long range Creedmoor/Target type rifle.
