Description:

Manufactured by Astiazaran c.1790. The breech, lock, and trigger guard have Astiazaran's hallmark. The breech also has fleurs-de-lis, a rampant lion, and a crown and inlaid scrollwork. The girdle is also chiseled with scrollwork, and the lock, upper tang, and iron furniture have scrollwork, borders, and floral patterns. The stock is fashioned in the Madrid style and has two pierced barrel bands, molding, raised relief carving, and a heel plate. The barrel has a simple front sight bead.

Rating Definition:

Good with traces of original blue finish on the barrel mixed with brown patina, strong gilding in some of the marks, generally crisp engraving, gray patina on most of the lock, some mild pitting and oxidation, moderate scrapes and dings on the refinished and repaired stock, and some cracks and chips remaining. Mechanically fine.
