The accompanying factory letter lists both revolvers with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish, and type of stocks not listed when shipped together to H.H. Harris & Co., Chicago, Illinois, on April 27, 1956, as part of a 4 gun shipment. These revolvers were ordered by renowned Colt authority, author, collector and Chicago dealer Arnold Marcus Chernoff. An included letter from Chernoff explains that when Colt reintroduced the SAA, he ordered this pair of revolvers, had the arms inscribed with his name and numbered "1" and "2" respectively on the back strap, changed out the grips with pearl stocks, and had a holster rig made especially for this pair. This holster rig is included along with a photo of Chernoff wearing the rig and holding one of these revolvers. The revolvers have standard Colt markings, back straps inscribed "Arnold M. Chernoff" and pearl grips. "A" gun has "No. 1" inscribed on top of the back strap, and "B" gun has "No. 2" inscribed on top of the back strap. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, grip strap and back strap. The fancy black leather holster rig has stamped 1 3/4 inch conchos, and the belt is 69 inches long. Comes with an extra .45 LC barrel, period SAA brochure, and Second Generation factory black box numbered to another gun.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 90% original blue finish with smooth gray patina mostly on the grip straps and area around the trigger from use. 95% original case colors remain on the frame. There is limited light spotting. The ill-fitting grips are very good with chipping. Mechanically excellent. The box is fair with detached lid, split corners and wear. The holster rig is fine showing minor wear.
