Developed in 1944, the M1C was the first production-level sniper variant of the M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle. While highly effective as a sniper weapon, the manufacturing process was rather involved, requiring a Springfield receiver to be selected off the production line before heat treating, shipped to Griffin & Howe for base installation, and then returned to the Armory to complete the process. While phased out of production in favor of the M1D, which could be produced in-house by Springfield using finished and surplus M1 rifles, the M1C saw sniper duty through Korea and into Vietnam. Less than 8000 were completed during WW II, with a batch of converted but unassembled receivers finished up circa 1951-1953 for Korea, resulting in a total production of less than 13000. This example has a receiver originally manufactured in January of 1945, with a "1-S-A-4-45" Springfield barrel, "BATTLE RANGE" marked rear sight drums with locking bar, Springfield bolt, hammer, safety, trigger housing and operating rod. The scope base is secured to the receiver with the proper two-pin/three-screw arrangement and is numbered to the gun. The Griffin & Howe marked ring assembly is numbered "3592586 on the right side, and the scope bears the "TELESCOPE/M84/SERIAL NO. 28750" on the right side. Smooth pistol grip stock, with "SA/NFR" and "P" stamps, "X" on the bottom of the grip, and a steel buttplate. With a CMP Certificate of Authenticity, identifying it by serial number as a M1C rifle, a packing list, later production rubber eye cup and an opened white storage bag.

Very fine, with 90% of the arsenal refurbished parkerized finish, showing mild edge wear and handling marks. The stock is good as repaired, with some filler material visible in front of the floorplate, light sanding, and some light dents and scuffs. The scope body shows some mild handling marks, with the optics crisp and the reticle in good order. Mechanically excellent.
