Description:

This is a solid representative example of a WWII production M1 Garand rifle that was manufactured by the Winchester factory circa November 1943. The rear of the receiver is marked "U.S. RIFLE/CAL. 30 M1/WINCHESTER/Trade Mark/2362350" with the right side of the receiver is marked "D28291-2. It is fitted with a WWII Winchester barrel that has a single circled "WP" proof mark with a single punch mark along with an upside down "23". The various parts are marked as follows; trigger housing: D28290- W.R.A., trigger guard: C46025 W.R.A., hammer: C-46008-1 W.R.A, bolt: D28287-1 W.R.A., operating rod: D35382-W.R.A.. The internal parts are all either CM or punch dot marked. It has a correct Winchester manufactured Battle Range marked rear sight set with the open arrows on both the elevation knob and the windage knob, with the locking bar on the windage side. It has the correct Winchester gas cylinder, and lock both with their early Du-Lite blue type finish with a single slot gas plug. It is fitted with a correct style front sight however the protective screw cap is missing. It is fitted with an original WWII Winchester stock and handguard set with a smooth rear handguard band and the oval front barrel band. The stock has the late short channel with a very faint "W.R.A/G.H.D." and Ordnance Wheel cartouche on the left side with a single circled "P" proof in the grip area, with an early style buttplate that is checkered in the center only with a smooth outer border.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 40% of the faded parkerized finish remaining overall showing much wear on all the exposed metal surfaces with the exposed front end of the barrel having browned out. The finish on the gas cylinder is intact but also shows much thinning and wear overall. The stock and handguard are both in good condition showing years of actual field/combat use with numerous scattered pressure dents and dings in the sides overall. The barely legible cartouches are faint. This is what writer believes a WWII issue rifle showing actual field use looks like.
