U.S. Property Marked Colt Model 1908 General Officer's Pocket Hammerless Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a fine, unaltered example of a "US Property" marked Colt M1908 Pistol as manufactured in early 1944 and issued by the US Army. This series of pistol was standard issue to all General Officers as well as other US government agencies and personnel during WWII and was eventually replaced by the M15 General Officers 1911A1 type pistol in the early 1970s. These were directly purchased from Colt, with the left side of the slide having the standard two-line Colt Hartford factory address and 1897 and 1903 patent dates. The right side is marked in two lines: "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE .380 HAMMERLESS" below the ejection port. The right side of the frame is marked "U.S. PROPERTY" above the trigger and the left side is correctly marked with the "M" prefix serial number "137679" above the trigger. The Colt "V/P" triangle proof mark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The pistol is a early example that has the all blued finish with checkered walnut stocks inlaid with silver Colt medallions. It is not listed in the Horace Greely book, "The Colt General Officers Pistol". Magazine absent.

ConditionFine with 90% plus of the original blue finish with minor edge and high spot wear, numerous small little pin-prickspots of erosion/pitting on both sides of the slide and frame, primarily at the transition lines on the slide, probably from sitting in a holster. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides.
