Description:

These massive guns are sometimes listed as the "Pattern 96" and are essentially an intermediate arm between a musket and a piece of artillery. A stirrup mounted swivel would have been fitted through the hole in the forend and have allowed it to be fitted in place on a wall or ship deck. They were manufactured c. 1840-1852 for the British East India Company's private military operating on the Indian Subcontinent and other areas. It is essentially an enlarged smoothbore musket and has a blade front sight, four ramrod pipes, large lock with the EIC rampant lion emblem, London barrel proofs, and a Weller collection tag on the trigger guard. It weighs nearly 35 pounds.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with mottled gray and brown patina and oil staining on the iron, aged patina on the brass, some chips and scraps on the stock concentrated at the butt, cracks in the forend tip and left flat, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically excellent.
