This shotgun appears to be a prototype assembled by the Winchester factory to test the ability of the Remington Model 1100 to use 3 inch shells. This may have been used in an attempt to improve their own models or simply to compare with a competitor. This is evidenced by two factory tags, one marked "Prototype M1100 S/G 3" Mag. Chamber" and the other marked "Prototype 3" Feeding". This example shows no markings except the serial number and a Winchester oval proof on the barrel which is in the white having replaced the original. 3 inch chamber, modified choke, and 14 inch length of pull. The included FN America Certificate of Provenance identifies the shotgun by model and serial number, stating that it was previously a part of the Winchester Factory Collection where it was maintained by U.S. Repeating Arms.
