This rifle with its desirable experimental serial number bears a prototype bolt lock as evidenced by the trigger guard tag marked "M70 PROTOTYPE SPORTER S/A NEW BOLT LOCK". It shows many of the features of a Super Grade Model 70 rifle including the ramped hooded blade front and single leaf folding rear sights and the fancy walnut, checkered, pistol grip stock with ebony forend cap, metal grip cap, and raised cheek piece. However, it is unmarked other than the unique serial number "EXP.1" stamped on the left side of the receiver ring and a factory metal tag on the buttstock marked "W 242". The floorplate release is atypical, and the trigger guard is in the white. The included FN America Certificate of Provenance identifies the rifle by model and serial number, stating that it was previously a part of the Winchester Factory Collection where it was maintained by U.S. Repeating Arms.
