Description:

The musket is of the Elliott's Light Dragoon Carbine pattern with a cypher (not usual St. Edward's crown) and "Ketland" marked lock. It has two faint Birmingham proofs on the barrel. It has three ramrod pipes in the similar to the Short Land pattern and it has a straight sling bar with ring on the left side, with the rear attached with the lock plate screw through the side plate. The ramrod is of the style approved by the king in 1773 featuring a swell with a cut groove which locks into a protrusion of the nose-cap to lock the ramrod in place. These carbines were initially intended to arm the 15th Regiment of Light Dragoons, but by the late 18th and early 19th centuries were employed by most light cavalry regiments. A very scarce British cavalry carbine, the likes of which saw action at battles such as Waterloo.

Rating Definition:

Good, showing a mottled grey patina, extensive pitting throughout, heavier pitting on the frizzen, and attractive aged patina on the brass. The lock markings are distinct, and the barrel proofs visible. The revarnished wood is also very good with numerous light dings and scratches throughout. The barrel tang is proud. Mechanically fine.
