The consignor's notes indicate this is a Belgian 8x53.5 mm Marga experimental rifle from circa 1890. It appears to match the drawings for Belgian military officer Uldarique Marga's 1892 patent for a bolt action rifle, and a somewhat similar rifle pattern is shown on the cover of the book "Uldarique Marga: Le Concurrent Belge des Frères Mauser (1854 - 1925)." The only markings are Liege proof marks on the breech and bolt, the graduations on the rear sight, and "213" on the heel. The magazine has a cut-off device on the left and an internal stripper clip guide. The rear locking bolt has a sliding safety. The barrel, receiver, and magazine/trigger assembly are blued. The three quarter length walnut stock has 13 1/4 inch pull. Provenance: This rifle was loaned by the consignor to the Royal Armories Museum in Leeds, England.
Very good overall with 85% plus original blue finish throughout, brown patina on the bolt handle and fading areas, minimal minor oxidation, and light scratches and marks. Aside from the ineffective safety, it is mechanically fine.
