Description:

The Prussians adopted the Dreyse needle-gun, the first breech loading rifle to use a bolt to open and close the chamber, in 1841 as their main infantry weapon. The Model 1857 carbine is one of the rarer examples and has the distinctive forend cap that forms wings around the blade front sight, a notch and folding leaf rear sight, matching serial numbers on multiple components, "1870" on the right rear of the receiver, "Herzberg a/k" and the "Mod: 57." markings on the left side of the action, and additional government proof and inspection marks.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with deep brown "nicotine" coated coloration visible on most of the visible surfaces, some brighter areas, aged patina on the brass, and mild marks and scratches. The stock is fine and has a minor hairline crack at the rear of the action, a variety of minor dings and scrapes, and smooth finish. Mechanically good.
